Timezone Converter

A timezone converter shows what time it is in other cities at a moment you choose. Pick a city and a time, and this tool lists the same moment in New York, London, Berlin, Dubai, Mumbai, Singapore, Tokyo, Sydney and more, with each city's UTC offset and a marker when the date changes. Daylight saving time is applied automatically.

How to use the Timezone Converter

  1. Choose a city in the Time in menu. It starts with your own time zone.
  2. Set the time in the At box. It starts at the current time.
  3. Read the list: every city shows the same moment in local time, its UTC offset, and +1 day or -1 day when the date differs.
  4. Look for rows marked as working hours to find a meeting time that suits everyone.

Formula

local time = UTC instant + city offset (from the IANA time zone database)

The chosen wall-clock time is converted to a single UTC instant, then formatted for each city with the browser's Intl API, which uses the IANA time zone database. Offsets and daylight saving rules therefore match the real rules for each date.

Major time zones

  • UTC-8 / UTC-7 (Pacific): Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver
  • UTC-5 / UTC-4 (Eastern): New York, Toronto, Miami
  • UTC+0 / UTC+1: London, Dublin, Lisbon
  • UTC+1 / UTC+2 (Central Europe): Paris, Berlin, Rome
  • UTC+5:30: Mumbai, Delhi
  • UTC+8: Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing
  • UTC+9: Tokyo, Seoul
  • UTC+10 / UTC+11: Sydney, Melbourne

Daylight saving time

Many regions move clocks forward one hour in spring and back in autumn, but on different dates: the US changes on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November, the EU on the last Sundays of March and October. The southern hemisphere does the opposite, and much of Asia, Africa, Arizona and Hawaii do not change at all.

Timezone Converter questions

How do I schedule a meeting across time zones?

List where every participant is, then look for a slot inside everyone's working hours. For New York and London, 9 AM to noon in New York is 2 PM to 5 PM in London. Always send the invitation from a calendar app, which converts the time for each attendee automatically.

What is the difference between UTC and GMT?

For scheduling they are the same time. GMT is a time zone used by the UK in winter, while UTC is the atomic time standard the world sets clocks by. The UK switches to BST (UTC+1) in summer, so London is not always on GMT.

How does daylight saving time affect conversions?

It shifts a region's UTC offset by one hour for part of the year. New York is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer. Because regions change on different dates, the gap between two cities can vary by an hour for a few weeks each spring and autumn. This tool applies those rules automatically.

How do I calculate the time difference between two cities?

Subtract their UTC offsets. Tokyo is UTC+9 and New York is UTC-5 in winter, so Tokyo is 14 hours ahead; in US summer time the gap is 13 hours. The converter shows each offset, so you can read the difference directly.

Why does the date change in some cities?

When the time difference pushes a city past midnight, it is already the next day, or still the previous day. The converter marks those rows with +1 day or -1 day, which matters for deadlines and flights that cross the International Date Line.

Which time zone does India use?

All of India uses India Standard Time, UTC+5:30, with no daylight saving time. Half-hour offsets also exist elsewhere, such as Newfoundland (UTC-3:30) and parts of Australia, and Nepal uses UTC+5:45. Because there is no daylight saving time in India, the gap to other countries changes when they switch their clocks. For example, London is 5 hours 30 minutes behind India in winter and 4 hours 30 minutes behind in summer.

What are good practices for teams across time zones?

Agree on a few hours of overlap for live meetings, rotate inconvenient meeting times fairly, and write times with a zone, such as 3 PM ET / 8 PM UK. For anything that is not urgent, prefer written updates so nobody has to join outside their working day.
